Eighth International Conference on Agricultural Statistics

Call for Proposals - Last Date Extended from 15th January 2019 to 31st January 2019
This is a call for statisticians, economists, researchers and analysts engaged in food, agriculture (crop, livestock, fish and forests) and rural development sector to participate in the upcoming Eighth International Conference on Agricultural Statistics (ICAS VIII) in New Delhi, India, 18-21, 2019. Proposals for the topics to be covered in the technical sessions for oral presentation and poster presentation, along with the themes for side events, panel discussions, and topics for invited lectures can now be submitted. Discussions in the past conference have covered a wide variety of methodological, operational and strategic subjects having bearing on agriculture and rural development, including use of technology for modernizing statistical systems and generating statistics.
The theme of ICASVIII is “Statistics for transformation of agriculture to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”. The theme is broad enough to cover conventional themes and emerging subjects. Audience is encouraged to propose topics related to statistical application and data generation issues and/or lessons learnt in crop/livestock/fish/forest production and conservation systems. Conference will give particular attention to subject dealing with the challenges faced by most statistical systems to generate data for monitoring social, economic and environmental dimension of agriculture practices and policies.
Potential themes for the sessions and topic of papers include the following:

- •Food Security, Poverty, Rural Development and Social Dimensions of Agriculture

- •Climate Change and Environmental Issues
- •Social protection and risk mitigation measures in agriculture
- •Capacity building in Agricultural Statistics
The conference programme, usually having six parallel sessions on selected sub-themes, will be prepared by the Scientific Committee taking into account the proposals for technical contribution in response to this open call and the suggestions of international development agencies and /or sponsors.
The Programme Committee will try to ensure that:
- The programme is of high quality, with sessions that emphasize innovative ideas, methodology, approaches and/or applications to problems of international importance;
- The sessions have a balance of Organizers / Presenters / Discussants from around the world;
- The contents are clearly of interest and fit into the whole range of domains covered by food, agriculture and rural statistics, as well as to the countries at different stages of statistical development; and
- The conference has a diversity of participants with respect to age, gender and statistical interests.
Each session proposal should include a brief description and justification for the proposed session and a list of presenters and discussants who have agreed to participate and make technical contributions. Session proposals can be submitted online after Registration (Click here to register)

The selection criteria will take into account scientific quality, relevance to international development agenda, and impact on developmental work related to themes to be covered in the Conference, overall diversity of subject coverage and relevance to national priorities. Authors of proposals with purely theoretical content are advised to consider suitability of their submission for relevant academic conferences as well. This conference, though welcoming contributions both in theory and practice of agricultural statistics, emphasizes the coverage of topics which are of direct relevance to development of agricultural statistics produced by the national statistical systems.
